I take your point Eerie but I think it was only in his latter years that people began to like him. For many years he was one of the most disliked characters in the game.

I didn’t mean likeable as in you want him as your best mate, I’m talking about the persona, he had a character that a lot of people like in one way or the other.

Ancelotti very over rated as a manager.

He actually isn't a football manager, more a PR manager.
He is paid to keep the highest footballers in the world happy, at chelsea, PSG and Madrdid, but does no actual managing and doesn't leave any club with anything when he leaves.

No one ever described Clough as likable when he was in his pomp.

Just the other day I happened to watch the famous interview he did at Yorkshire TV with Revie after he had just been sacked by Leeds and I would describe him as anything but likable.

His description of Tomakevski as a 'clown' (? spelling probably wrong) after England had been knocked out of the WC qualifier by Poland in 1973 was nothing short of crass.

I think he mellowed in later years and there is some misty eyed nostalgia about his methods when you see him featured on the likes of Football Focus.

Alex Ferguson is overrated? Only on WHO!

Re: Overrated managers. Let's start. Martinez
Ferguson was on the verge of being sacked when he turned things around and the rest, as they say is history. Obnoxious twat that he is, he is definitely not over rated and I can't see anyone getting anywhere near his record of achievement - ever.

im not a fan of ferguson. to me he's a charmless bully cunt but there's no way you could ever call him overrated. his record in the premier league will never be equalled and his aberdeen/manc teams always tried to win with attacking football

Re: Overrated managers. Let's start. Martinez
Man u was a mess of a drinking den when Ferguson took over. A big fat wheezing giant with a nasty case of piles. The "giant" aspect is little help to a club when you consider the other aspects.

The club was a dying beached whale when he took over. History is pretty clear on the (not instant) change he made at the club.

History is busy updating itself on how the club does in its life after Ferguson.

Mourinho runs fergie close if we are going to base it on trophies and the fact he has done it in 3 different leagues at alot of top clubs

FC, Man U were already a massive club when Fergie joined them!

Re: Overrated managers. Let's start. Martinez
Certainly easy to judge managers harshly early in their careers.

Marcello Lippi spent the first 7 years of his career at 6 different Italian lower league clubs with a winning percentage that never exceeded 30% and was as low as 14%.

Even after making it to Serie A, he never broke 50% until he reached Juve.

Make me wonder why we pine so much for young managers.

People talk so much nonsense about managers.

Re: Overrated managers. Let's start. Martinez
love it when people claim fergie was a shit manager. probably same people who claim lampard jr is a shit player as well!

fergie took a struggling utd team and completely changed them as a club and team. if there were any proof needed of how good he actually was, look at how they are getting on without him...
